FBSJ Announces Schedule of Fundraising and Community Service Events to Promote Hunger Action Month™
Pennsauken, NJ, August 23, 2017 –(PR.com)– This September the Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) is launching a series of fundraising and community service events to support the Feeding America nationwide campaign, Hunger Action Month, a month-long initiative to inspire community members to take action and raise awareness for the 42 million Americans struggling with food insecurity according to the USDA.
In South Jersey alone, more than 200,000 people struggle with food insecurity including 57,000 children who may not know where to find their next meal.
“With so many challenges facing our country today, the urgent problem of hunger becomes an unnoticed issue that silently plagues our family members, our neighbors, and our friends,” states FBSJ President and CEO, Val Traore. “Often times I meet working parents who find themselves having to make a tough decision that can affect their children’s future. By working with our local community and our national food bank partners, we can make a real difference for those people who need our help now.”
People can get involved through a number of initiatives, including:
· Dine Out For Hunger – From Sunday, September 10th through Saturday, September 16th local restaurants in Burlington, Gloucester, Salem, and Camden counties are stepping up to fight hunger by donating a portion of their patrons’ checks to help FBSJ fight hunger in South Jersey. To find a list of participating restaurants, visit www.foodbanksj.org/dineout.
· Hunger Action Day – On Thursday, September 14th, FBSJ asks supporters to share how hunger would affect them personally by writing on an empty plate, “On an empty stomach I can’t _____,” filling in that blank spot with something they couldn’t achieve without the nutrition we need to thrive, and sharing it to FBSJ’s social media pages with #HungerActionMonth to join the conversation.
· Food Truck Friday – FBSJ will host a variety of local food truck merchants on Friday, September 22nd, at their Pennsauken-based headquarters’ parking lot from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. A percentage of sales generated from the event will benefit the organization’s programs from children. Area residents and local workforce are invited to stop by and enjoy their lunch breaks for a good cause.
· Virtual Food Drive – Throughout the entire month of September, anti-hunger advocates and area organizations are invited to create their very own virtual food drive to benefit those in need. Details and information on how to get started can be found at www.foodbanksj.org/hamvirtual.
