Corzine Pushes Food Banks to Work with N.J. Farmers
Tuesday, June 16, 2009 – Courier Post
Gov. Jon Corzine visited the Food Bank of South Jersey in Pennsauken
this morning to kick off this year's Jersey Fresh campaign.
New Jersey Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Lynne Richmond said Corzine
was going to urge New Jersey food banks to purchase fresh produce from Garden
State farmers.
"The governor is encouraging and congratulating the food banks for the job
that they are doing and for partnering with our farmers to help feed those in
need," Richmond said.
Also attending the event were Agriculture Secretary Douglas H. Fisher, Regional
Administrator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service
Yvette Jackson and representatives from New Jersey's seven food banks.
"This is their opportunity to say 'This is what we need'," Richmond
said.
