PENNSAUKEN, N.J. –Volunteers from a South Jersey health provider came together to help serve up some tasty meals to kids in need.

On Tuesday, July 31st, employees with Virtua Health took some time out of their day to help provide fresh and nutritious meals to children in Pennsauken through the Food Bank of South Jersey’s Summer Meals Program.

During the summer months, children in families struggling financially loose access to the school breakfasts and lunches they rely on, which is why officials say programs like the Food Bank’s Summer Meals Program are so important.

“This is part of our mission, this is the reason why the Food Bank of South Jersey exists, to provide meals to people who are food insecure and for us we believe that no child deserves to go to bed hungry,”┬ásaid Lavinia Awosanya, director of Strategic Partnerships for the Food Bank of South Jersey.

Last year, the Summer Meals Program provided 395,000 meals to more than 8,000 children in Burlington, Camden, Salem, and Gloucester counties.

The goal this year is to provide half a million meals to children in the area so they can enjoy summer with their families and not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.
