Camden, NJ – – August 14, 2019 United Airline’s staff recently supported their sponsorship of the Food Bank of South Jersey’s Summer Meals program by visiting the Miguel’s Pharmacy site in the City of Camden.
United Airlines donated $5,000 to the program to support five Summer Meal locations throughout the area, including Miguel’s Pharmacy which provides nutritious lunches to an average of 50 children Monday through Thursday.
The United Airlines representatives included Jill Kaplan, President of New Jersey/New York, Blenda Riddick, Director of Corporate and Government Affairs, and Michele Scott, Manager of Community Relations, who were on-hand at Miguel’s Pharmacy to meet and help serve the children a meal consisting of apple dippers, raisins, cinnamon chips, honey roasted sun flower kernels, milk and juice.
“United Airlines core value is connecting people, uniting the world, and that starts within our local communities; we believe in the importance of proper nutrition and that no child should go hungry,” said Jill Kaplan, president of New Jersey/New York for United Airlines. “As a company, we are pleased to lend support to the Summer Meals initiative which funds over 120 sites across South Jersey to feed children in need and recognize the extensive efforts the Food Bank of South Jersey has done within their local communities this summer.”
For 10 weeks in the Summer, the Food Bank’s Summer Meals program delivers fresh and nutritious meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to children in Burlington, Camden, Salem and Gloucester counties. Last year’s program provided 220,000 meals to 6,000 children and the Food Bank of South Jersey is hoping to continue to grow and expand their programs.
“Food insecurity affects 57,000 children in South Jersey and many parents who rely on school meals to provide nourishment for their children are left with few options during the summer,” says Fred Wasiak, President & CEO, Food Bank of South Jersey. “We are proud to be able to take some of the burden of replacing school-provided meals once summer hits through our Summer Meals program and we would not be able to do so without the support of our sponsors – we are grateful to each and every one of them.”
