Sterigenics Donates $10,000 to Food Bank of South Jersey’s COVID-19 Response Fund

Sterigenics is donating $10,000 to support the Food Bank of South Jersey as it continues to meet a 200 percent increase in food requests due to COVID-19.

PENNSAUKEN, NEW JERSEY – The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ), South Jersey’s largest hunger-relief organization, reports Sterigenics has announced it will donate $10,000 to the regional Feeding America food bank to support its COVID-19 emergency food distribution response, effective immediately.

“Sterigenics is proud to support the Food Bank of South Jersey and its important work in helping families impacted by the Coronavirus,” reports Thomas Dalfonso, General Manager, Sterigenics. “Through the Sotera Health Community Response Fund, Sterigenics and its sister companies have provided nearly $1 million in support to organizations around the world, reflecting our commitment to the communities in which we operate.”

Since it began its COVID-19 emergency food response in March, the Food Bank of South Jersey, within its first 90 days of COVID-19 relief, distributed more than five million pounds of food and over 20,000 emergency food boxes through 58 dedicated food distribution locations throughout Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties. Responding to a more than 200 percent increase in food need throughout its region of support, the Food Bank of South Jersey reports more than 40 percent of participants attending its emergency food distributions are first-time participants in food relief programming – reflecting the overwhelming impact of COVID-19 on the economic and employment stability of the Garden State.

“Our COVID-19 emergency food distribution response continues,” reports Fred C. Wasiak, President and CEO, Food Bank of South Jersey. “The impact of COVID-19 will be felt throughout South Jersey for the foreseeable future, with food distributions continuing to see surging attendance as unemployment remains a lingering, painful issue throughout our four-county region. We are grateful to the many companies and organizations, including the generosity and compassion of Sterigenics, who have helped us increase our capacity, strength and resilience to deploy accelerated hunger-relief initiatives during this unprecedented time of hunger.”
