THREE RESOLUTIONS THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN 2022

Studies show that most people give up on their New Year’s resolutions after 1 month. Year after year we often commit to more resolutions than we can handle or that aren’t sustainable given our schedules and responsibilities. Here at the Food Bank of South Jersey we know there is always hope when we work together toward a common goal – providing food to our South Jersey neighbors in need, living healthier lives and committing to sustainable solutions that will improve all of our lives.

Here are three resolutions that are easy, practical and will impact South Jersey all year long!

1. Focus on a Passion… like fighting hunger in South Jersey

1 in 7 individuals are facing food-insecurity in South Jersey. If you share our passion for alleviating hunger by providing food resources to children, families and seniors in need, here are ideas on how to accomplish a passion-focused resolution.

  • Become a Hero for Hope
The Hero for Hope program is a monthly giving program that sustains our operations all year long. Regardless of the size of the donation or frequency you can commit to fighting hunger by setting up a recurring donation that will automatically give the Food Bank of South Jersey the resources it needs to meet the increasing food needs of South Jersey. Visit donate.foodbanksj.org/hero22 to get started.
  • Start a Facebook Fundraiser
Facebook makes it easy to launch an online fundraiser by giving you the ability to connect to all your friends, family and followers to join you in raising vital funds needed to provide nutritious meals to our neighbors in need. Every dollar donated will provide 3 meals to hungry South Jersey children, families and seniors. Launch your Facebook Fundraiser here: facebook.com/fund/foodbanksj

2. Perform Acts of Kindness

Showing kindness to others has become even more important. The compassion we can show to our community could set in motion a change our neighbors have been yearning for – respect, understanding and a sense of belonging. The best way we know how to show kindness are through the following:

  • Volunteer with FBSJ
The Food Bank of South Jersey was started by a group of volunteers over 30 years ago and continues to be powered by dedicated volunteers today. Adding over 200 partner agencies that host a variety of hunger relief programming across Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties, the need for volunteers is great and offers the opportunity to show kindness through service. • Host a Food Drive… or Virtual Food Drive
Kindness can start with a can of soup, a box of pasta or bag of rice, which happen to be some of the most needed items that are often in short supply. Kindly hosting a food drive will fulfill your resolution and ensure families in South Jersey have enough to eat. If an in-person food drive isn’t an option, hosting a virtual food drive has an even bigger impact right from the comfort of your tablet or mobile device. Learn more at foodbanksj.org/donate-food

3. Reduce Waste. Increase Wellness.

Make it a point this year to focus on your health and the health of your family and the wellness of your community. Healthier choices can start here.

  • Join a free cooking class
Our Health & Wellness team hosts a variety of in-person and virtual cooking classes that focus on nutrition education as well as learning needed cooking skills to take your dishes from flavorless to flavorFULL. Classes for adults on managing diabetes and hypertension are also available. Sign up for a class TODAY at foodbanksj.org/health-and-wellness
  • Watch Hunger Bites
Self-care takes time. Watch our cooking program Hunger Bites to learn ways to stay healthy and how to reduce waste to show you care about your community. Watch all of Season 1 NOW at foodbanksj.org/hungerbites.

It not always easy sticking to your New Year’s resolutions, but choosing any of these easy, practical resolutions will have a lasting impact on South Jersey for the whole year and beyond.
