FOOD BANK OF SOUTH JERSEY WELCOMES NEW BOARD CHAIR AND OFFICERS

PENNSAUKEN, NJ | November 2023 – The Food Bank of South Jersey, the region’s leading hunger-relief organization, has announced its new slate of board officers.

Suzanne Ghee was selected by the Board of Trustees to serve as the Chair of the Food Bank of South Jersey’s board. Ghee will take over the position from Doug Schaeffer, who has served in the role since 2022. Schaeffer will continue to serve on the board as Vice Chair.

The new slate of Board officers is:

  • Chair – Suzanne Ghee, President & CEO of Thrive Public Affairs
  • Vice Chair – Doug Schaeffer, EVP, Executive Director, Woodforest National Bank
  • Secretary – Michael Matheis, Director, 787th Civil Engineer Squadron, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, U.S. Air Force
  • Treasurer – Philip Bartholomew, Vice President, Relationship Manager, Bank of America

These officers will provide important direction in furthering FBSJ’s mission to provide an immediate solution to the urgent problem of hunger.

“We thank Doug for his service to the Food Bank of South Jersey over the past year, helping to guide the organization through a tumultuous time of increased need,” said Fred C. Wasiak, President and CEO of the Food Bank of South Jersey. “We look forward to Suzanne stepping into this role at a critical time for FBSJ, as we look toward the future and the development of a new strategic plan.”

As the leader in providing safe and nutritional food to South Jersey, FBSJ not only distributes food, but also offers nutrition education and cooking courses and helps food-insecure families and seniors find sustainable ways to improve their lives.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to have been chosen by my esteemed colleagues to lead this remarkable organization,” said Ghee. “As Board Chair, we will continue to elevate our food bank’s impact, guaranteeing that nutritious, quality food reaches our neighbors in need. Together, through this collaborative endeavor, our organization will continue to advance our shared mission of creating a stronger, healthier South Jersey.”

New members joining the Board in 2023 include:

  • Kim Andreola, Chief of Staff to President and CEO, Holman
  • Elias Bitar, President, E.M.Z. Corp.
  • Desiree Martins, Commercial Relationship Manager, VP, TD Bank
