FOOD BANK OF SOUTH JERSEY WELCOMES NEW BOARD CHAIR AND OFFICERS 

PENNSAUKEN, NJ | November 2022 – The Food Bank of South Jersey, the region’s leading hunger-relief organization, has announced its new slate of board officers.

Doug Schaeffer was selected by the Board of Trustees to be the new Chair of the Food Bank of South Jersey. Schaeffer will take over the position from Megan Shea, who has served in the role since 2020.  Schaeffer is an Executive Vice President, Executive Director, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), at Woodforest National Bank®. He is also Board Chairman, Managing Director, and Co-Founder of Allivate Impact CapitalSM, an impact investing firm, and subsidiary of Woodforest Financial Group.   

Additional officers selected by the board of trustees include: 

  • Vice-Chair – Suzanne Ghee, President & CEO, Thrive Public Affairs 
  • Treasurer – Phil Bartholomew, Vice President, Relationship Manager, Bank of America 
  • Secretary – Mike Matheis, Director, 787th Civil Engineer Squadron, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, US Air Force 

These officers will provide important direction in furthering FBSJ’s mission to provide an immediate solution to the urgent problem of hunger.  

“We’re grateful to Megan Shea who served during a difficult period at FBSJ, guiding the organization through the global pandemic and record levels of food distribution in South Jersey,” said Fred C. Wasiak, President and CEO of the Food Bank of South Jersey. “We are looking forward to Doug stepping into this role at a critical time for FBSJ, as we look toward the future and the development of a new strategic plan.” 

As the leader in providing safe and nutritional food to South Jersey, FBSJ not only distributes food, but also offers nutrition education and cooking courses and helps food-insecure families and seniors find sustainable ways to improve their lives. 

“I am honored to take on the role of chair for the Food Bank,” Shaeffer said.  “FBSI is a mighty organization of people that are so passionate about making sure people don’t go hungry. It’s important that we continue exploring innovative approaches to getting to the issues around food insecurity and providing more sustainability to everyone we serve.” 

New members joining the Board in 2022 include: 

  • Pastor Georgia Dennis, President and Founder, Love Ministries Outreach International, Inc. 
  • Jeff Hayman, CEO, Lakeview Acquisition Corp.  
  • Mike Matheis, Director, 787th Civil Engineer Squadron, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, US Air Force 
  • Carol Strock, Director, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Food Pantry 
  • Pastor Darlene Trappier, Executive Director, Beacon of Hope
