Help the Food Bank of South Jersey Stamp Out Hunger
The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) has partnered with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the United States Postal Service (USPS) for Stamp Out Hunger ®, the country’s largest single-day food drive, on Saturday, May 12. Food insecurity affects nearly 200,000 South Jersey residents.
The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) has partnered with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the United States Postal Service (USPS) for Stamp Out Hunger®, the country’s largest single-day food drive, on Saturday, May 12.
Food insecurity affects nearly 200,000 South Jersey residents. Local residents can support the FBSJ and the Drive by simply setting a bag of non-perishable food items next to their mailboxes or on their porches for their local letter carrier to pick up and deliver to the local hunger-relief organization.
“Many people do not realize that food insecurity is a problem in the place that they call home,” said Val Traore, President and CEO, Food Bank of South Jersey. “We serve four counties, Burlington, Gloucester, Salem and Camden, and nearly 12 percent of the population has limited access to food. By donating a bag of food or making a small monetary donation you are changing a person’s life or helping a family in need.”
The FBSJ is offering local residents new ways to Stamp Out Hunger: hosting a virtual food drive or giving online—a donation of just one dollar provides five meals. The online fundraiser will be open until May 19. This year’s event sponsors include: Aetna, Beneficial Bank, Subaru, Westmont Associates, Inc., ShopRite, RLS Logistics, State Farm, Dunkin’ Donuts, Jefferson Health and PSE&G.
Stamp Out Hunger is a nationwide food drive held in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam. It remains as important as ever, with many people facing economic struggles. Hunger affects about 50 million people around the country, including millions of children, senior citizens and veterans.
