Volunteering is so rewarding for me. It keeps me uplifted, knowing my small part is making a huge difference.
For Jim, the Food Bank of South Jersey is more than just a place to volunteer – it’s a second home.
After retiring at 62, Jim set out to “pay it forward.” He first volunteered calling bingo for seniors and helping at a small pantry. But every time he passed the Food Bank, he felt drawn to do more. So, in 2016, he signed up – and never looked back.
From sorting donations and assisting the operations team to leading tours and supporting events, Jim has worn many hats over the years. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when volunteers were scarce, he and a small-but-determined group showed up daily, ensuring families didn’t go without. “It was hard work, but it was extremely rewarding,” Jim recalls.
Now, nearly a decade later, Jim still finds fulfillment in every shift. “Volunteering is so rewarding for me,” he shares. “It keeps me uplifted, knowing that my small part, along with the efforts of the Food Bank staff and volunteers, is making a huge difference.”
Jim’s story is a powerful reminder that giving back isn’t just about the time you give, it’s about the lives you impact.
