At Rutgers University-Camden, four teams of employees from area businesses put their imagination and architectural skills to the test to build gigantic structures made entirely from cans of food.

Each teams structures used nearly 4,000 cans of food and was required to be center around the theme “CANstruction.” The charity event benefited the Food Bank of South Jersey in partnership with the non-profit organization CANstruction.

“My favorite part is actually seeing the structures come to life,” said Lavinia Awosanya of Food Bank of South Jersey. “The teams actually submit their renditions ahead of time and when we start seeing them coming – it’s very exciting, it makes it that much more real and obviously when they structures are finally in place its mind blowing to think what these teams can actually come up with.”

The businesses that competed also sponsored the event by donating nearly $5,000, and nearly 14,000 cans of food that was used to build the structures will be donated as well.

Officials say the money raised will help provide over 25,000 meals to families in need.

In 2016, the Food Bank of South Jersey provided over $11 million pounds of food to almost 200,000 South Jersey residents.
