PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Victims of Hurricane Michael will be getting some help from a South Jersey food bank.

A pallet truck scooted around the cavernous Food Bank of South Jersey warehouse Thursday morning, scooping up huge boxes of snacks and loading them onto a 48-foot tractor trailer. Operations Manager Charlie Hosier says the donation’s destination is Thomasville, Georgia.

“It’s going to the Second Harvest Food Bank of South Georgia, and it’s about 21,000 lbs. of food,” he said. “They requested some help from us, and that’s how we respond when we get these kinds of requests.”

The aid includes granola bars, crackers, chips, cookies and other items with a long shelf life.

“We happen to have enough of the inventory we could help them out,” he said. “This is all from local people who’ve donated to the food bank, so now we’re helping another sister food bank, just like they would help us if we needed some assistance.”

The food is expected to arrive this weekend and will be immediately relayed to the Florida Panhandle.
