CAMDEN, N.J. –

Subaru of America is taking part in a nationwide effort to combat hunger in our country’s young people.

The Christmas spirit was in the air at the Subaru of America in Camden on the morning of Thursday, November 15th, to kick off the return of Subaru’s annual Share the Love philanthropic event.

Volunteers from Subaru and the Food Bank of South Jersey teamed up to combat hunger for Camden’s youth community.

Tom Doll, CEO of Subaru of America, says it is a great way to start the holiday season.

“Over about 200,000 people that are impacted in terms of being food insecure … there’s 50,000 children that are affected,” said Doll.

Fred Wasiak, CEO of The Food Bank of South Jersey, says it will donate a record-breaking 6,600 “Kidzpacks” containing healthy food items that could produce up to four well-balanced meals.

“The three decades of work that the Subaru has had with South Jersey, really this is a culmination of all that work throughout the years, so today you can feel the energy the passion,” said Wasiak.

Plenty of volunteers had fun while packing away.

“There was just screaming a little bit. Every time a group, a team fills a gaylord of Kidzpacks meals the excitement you can hear it in the air,” said Wasiak.

Subaru employees across the country will also partner with local food banks and pantries to feed neighbors in need.

Even consumers purchasing a Subaru vehicle can also be a part of ‘Share the Love’ this holiday season.

“Between now and January the second people that come in to buy a Subaru we donate $250 for every vehicle that’s sold or leased to one of four national charities or a retailer’s hometown charity,” said Doll.
