Take action this September to make sure NO CHILD STARTS THIS SCHOOL YEAR HUNGRY. Hunger Action Month is a time when hunger advocates across our nation work to raise awareness of the millions of Americans facing hunger – now, more than ever. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment has soared and food insecurity is on the rise. In 2020 more than 54 million people – including 18 million children – may face hunger because of Coronavirus. Right now, the Food Bank of South Jersey is providing emergency hunger relief to more than 95,000 food-insecure neighbors. This Hunger Action Month, you can help make a big difference in the fight to alleviate hunger in South Jersey.
To honor the spirit of all who have supported the hunger-relief mission of the Food Bank of South Jersey, we celebrate 35 Faces of Hunger, a tribute to some of the dynamic, effectual and charitable people who, through compassion, charity and grace, strengthened the Food Bank of South Jersey’s capacity to serve yesterday, today and tomorrow.
This hero is the late regional ShopRite operator and generous philanthropist Steve Ravitz, a longtime friend and devoted supporter of the Food Bank of South Jersey, who sadly succumbed at the age of 72 to COVID-19 during early 2020.
For his devotion to helping South Jersey’s most food-insecure residents, genuine altruism that inspired so many to take up the fight against hunger – and for his benevolence, enthusiasm and devotion to feeding South Jersey, the Food Bank of South Jersey celebrates Steve Ravitz this Hunger Action Month – and every day to follow.

Due to COVID-19, we can no longer rely on the strength of the thousands of volunteers who all year long help us pack food boxes, sort donated food items and distribute food throughout our four-county region – Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties. Though volunteering looks different this year, it is still a vital strength and resource that provides essential support to feeding South Jersey. There are still ways to help! Find out how you can be a part of feeding South Jersey this Hunger Action Month.
